I don't think it's supposed to hurt this much!

After all my experience with braces, I am pretty positive that I have never had an adjustment hurt as bad as this past one. I am still in pain, although it is better. The first two days were literally unbearable to the point that I was taking my strong pain meds (the leftover ones from having my teeth pulled) and that was only dulling the pain slightly. It is starting to feel a little better now, but that is only when I do not touch my teeth at all. Which includes my top and lower teeth touching together. So basically I am holding my teeth apart slightly.

I have found that my teeth have moved SO much in the past couple of days that I have a totally different bite now. My teeth on my right side our touching together in a weird way, which is making it really hard for my teeth on my left side to even make contact. This wouldn't be so bad, except that it is my teeth on the right that are KILLING me. So, I have to shift my bottom jaw slightly to the left (so that the left upper and lower teeth can come together) so that I can chew any food at all. I accidentally hit my right upper and lower teeth together at one point (when I was trying to chew on my left side) and I thought I was going to throw up the pain was so intense.

I was going to call the ortho tomorrow if the pain hadn't gotten better, but, although it is still pretty bad, it has definitely improved. So, I am going to hold off on calling. I mean, I do want them to move as fast as possible, but there is just a point where you cannot function (i.e. work) when the pain has reached a certain level. So, with any luck I will get thru this soon and next time he will hopefully not make me endure pain like that again.

And I know, I really need to post some pics. Especially since my teeth are starting to move so much now, I really want to have those progress shots. I will try to get some soon.

Great you have progress, but sorry you're been in so much pain. I've had braces for three years and have not had pain, in fact I've rarely had any discomfort ... and I'm hoping that's the way it continues.

Hopefully you're feeling much more comfortable now and that your teeth are continuing to progress well.

kiwikaren - Thank you for your well wishes. I can't believe you have not had any pain at all in 3 years. Good for you! I wish I was that lucky. Although I would say, 90% of the time(or maybe more) I have been pain free as well, so I shouldn't complain. :)
katy_gopul - Wow, I can't beleive they put your braces on the day after having teeth pulled. They wouldn't put my wires back on for a week after I had my teeth pulled. Stick it out girl and you will have a beatiful smile before you know it. :) And you are young so I feel like it will go even faster. But hopefully the pain has gone away by now. Best wishes!
